Welcome Note by Prof. Hans-Ulrich Häring and Prof. Emmanuel Van Obberghen

Following a tradition that started in 1980 in Rome, the 13th International Symposium on the Insulin Receptor and Insulin Action will be held in April 2017 in Nice, France. Given the success in Rome, this high profile scientific initiative became a symposium series with a much anticipated meeting held every three years in Europe.

Nice is the chosen venue of this prestigious gathering for the second time, as it already hosted the conference in 2004.
Similar to the previous meetings, the 2017 event will bring forward the most recent advances in diabetes and obesity research.
Presented work will cover not only basic mechanisms of insulin signal transduction and metabolism, but also the complex pathophysiology
underlying the disease process of diabetes and obesity. Game-changing prevention and therapeutic approaches will be a special focus of this 13th edition.
The Organizing committee has successfully attracted leading international actors in the field who will unveil their most recent findings.
As in the past, the meeting set up will foster discussions and networking after the presentations and during the poster sessions.
In particular, strong interactions and exchange between world-experts and younger scientists and physicians make this meeting unique amongst many others in the field.

Finally, the 2017 meeting will be preceded by the German Diabetes School and the French/German Diabetes exchange program meetings.

Needless to say that the charm of the Mediterranean city of Nice and its legendary hospitality are major assets.

We look forward to seeing you very soon!!!
